It’s official: Council approves financing, construction contract for sewage plant

Hampton’s new wastewater treatment facility jumped its final hurdle last week when the city council passed two items granting its construction during a special meeting May 29.

     The council unanimously approved the third and final reading of an ordinance amendment that gradually increases sewage rates over the next five years to finance added costs for the project. Additionally, contracts were awarded to two separate companies for pipe installation and the sewage plant’s construction, which is hoped to get underway later this year.

            The two approvals marked an end to the final planning stages for the wastewater treatment facility, which has been in development since 2009.
