City examining funding for repaving
Improvements to Harriman Park wrapped up last month, with the installment of a 66-foot zip line, thanks in part to fundraising efforts by the Kiwanis Club of Hampton.
The addition of the zip line concludes approximately a year-and-a-half of fundraising, planning and construction.
Hampton Public Works Director Doug Tarr said that in addition to the zip line, is also the addition of more picnic tables, an extra water fountain and waste receptacle.
The park improvements were a collective $180,000 project, funded through the city, the community, Kiwanis and services provided by local businesses. Karen Schmidt, Kiwanis Club HAPPY (Harriman Playground Project for Youth) Committee Chair, said that services in-kind were approximately $60,000.
