HAMPTON – Meyer Motor Sports will be looking for a new official after Jake Jacobs will be taking his talent to the oval track next year.

The Figure 8 official who worked with Jim and Kathy Meyer for seven years was given a parting gift of a signed helmet at the racing banquet held at the Franklin County Convention Center on Saturday, Nov. 8.

“It’s going to be tough (leaving),” Jacobs said. “I used to race and had a lot of success; did really well, but then had a little boy and decided I was going to get out of it. At that time, the owner asked if I’d help him. When Jim and Kathy took over, I helped them. I’m actually going to miss everybody.

“I made a lot of friends. I’m at that point where I want to race again.”

Due to an early deadline because of the Veterans' Day Holiday, the complete story will be available in the Nov. 19 print and online editions of the Hampton Chronicle.
