Hansen receives jail time for probation violation

Brian J. Hansen was sentenced to seven days in jail Monday for making contact with a victim he sexually abused during his time as a physician at Franklin General Hospital.

The ruling came during a special sentencing hearing in Franklin County District Court that stemmed from Hansen's March 18 probation violation guilty plea. The former Hampton doctor, who pled guilty in May 2013 to Sexual Exploitation by a Counselor or Therapist, violated his probation when he encountered one of his victims, named by the court as J.K., at a local convenience store late last fall.

Hansen entered the Casey's General Store in Hampton on Nov. 30 despite knowing J.K. was inside the building. The terms of his probation stipulate he makes no contact with seven victims listed in the May 2013 case.

"I get the impression that some folks would prefer that this would be old England, and I as the queen banish Mr. Hansen from the realm. That is not something that I can do," said Judge Colleen Weiland. "If he lives in this community, he has the right within the parameters of his probation to be a member of the community. Nonetheless, those parameters are fairly restricted and we expect him to follow them."
