Valeria Gonzalez, a Hampton-based bilingual enrollment advisor and success coach for diverse populations for North Iowa Area Community College, is up for a spot on the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa Board of Directors.
Through her position with NIACC and her work in the Al Exito program, Gonzalez focuses on outreach and networking with the Latino population both in Franklin and Wright Counties and throughout the state.
"That's a way I could help meet families, work with youth and get them on college pathways that could eventually turn into enrollment at NIACC," she said.
Also through her work as an admissions representative, she helps students with the enrollment process, how to apply, filling out FASFA forms and everything else required from high school graduation to the start of college classes.
Additionally, Gonzalez said she is an advocate for Latino and immigrant rights and has partnered with community organizations to ensure their best interests are protected at a state and local level.
