What started out as an idea concocted by local teenagers has blossomed into a full-fledged reality at the Hampton United Methodist Church.

“The Cleanup Closet” will make its highly-anticipated Franklin County debut sometime next month. UMC Pastor Corby Johnson said the new addition is basically a food pantry with hygiene products families can come in and pick out things like toilet paper, deodorant and soap instead of food. The idea was sparked by the church’s confirmation class after a summer mission trip and has since snowballed into a complete congregational effort.

“It’s been brewing since July, and it all just kind of fell into place,” said Johnson. “People really stepped up at church and got behind it.”
