Hampton Tree Board Puts in Thousands of Hours of Work This Year

The Hampton Tree Board wrapped up their planting season this week, with their final tree going in at Harriman Park on Thursday morning.
The new tree replaced one of the infected ash trees that had been removed by the city earlier this year.
Hampton Tree Board member Randy Sanders told the Chronicle he logged around 800 hours of work this past year — planting, mulching, pruning, making phone calls, raising money and more. And he wasn’t the only one. He was joined by Jim Garrett, Patti Walker, Phil Strand, Dick Lukensmeyer, Craig Semler, Mel Brown, Rick Rieken, Lawrence Green and Lori Poulus, many of whom put in hundreds of hours of work as well. Together, they easily put in thousands of hours of work this last year.
The Hampton Tree Board, which was started in 2012 by Dick Lukensmeyer, has received the Tree City USA Growth Award for the last twelve years, making a difference in the Hampton area and beyond.
