For five generations, Sam Showalter’s family has farmed land in Franklin County. That tradition has motivated Showalter to become an advocate for soybean production and agriculture on a local, state and national level.
In December, Showalter, 26, was honored with the Iowa Soybean Association’s New Leader Award, which awards an individual’s commitment and involvement in promoting the soybean industry and agriculture as a whole.
Outside of his own operation, Showalter has also been involved in the soybean industry on a national and international scale. Through his involvement with the United Soybean Board, he traveled to Costa Rica and Panama in Central America as part of the “See for Yourself Program” to see how farmers’ check-off dollars are being spent to promote soybeans raised in the United States abroad.
He is also a member on the Iowa Soybean Association’s District Advisory Council, representing Region 2. Through the advisory committee, he works with the ISA and other council members to develop an overview of planting and harvest progress.
