Hampton residents salty over sidewalk citations

A recent flood of citations has local officials reminding Hampton residents about the city’s sidewalk snow removal ordinance.
Numerous citizens expressed frustration following a snowstorm that created widespread headaches in early January. Blowing conditions repeatedly covered sidewalks after snow stopped falling on Jan. 7, and some residents failed to clear a path before officials conducted ordinance compliance inspections a week later.
The city was forced to bill more than 60 properties for snow removal fees due to the violations.
“We were trying to be reasonable by giving people plenty of time to get them done, but we still had that many unfortunately,” said Hampton Code Enforcement Officer Doug Tarr.
