A celebration of Hampton’s past, present and future has been put on hold until next year.

The Hampton Historical Preservation Society and the Hampton Sesquicentennial Committee on Wednesday elected to postpone Hampton’s 150th Celebration until June of 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The event was initially scheduled for June of this year and was postponed to late August to coincide with Hampton Summerfest.

Hampton’s Sesquicentennial will now take place on June 4, 5 and 6 of 2021.

“We are sad to postpone the celebration again, but we feel it’s in the best interest of our community since the COVID numbers keep going up,” said Mardell Van Kleeck, chair of the 150th Committee. “Since we have worked so hard to plan this event, we decided to reschedule what we could for next year.”

However, ways to celebrate the 150th this year still remain. Hampton Historical books and other commemorative items will be on sale, with details to come.

Nearly 40 letters enclosed in the time capsule from Hampton’s centennial celebration will be distributed at Band Shell Park at 1 p.m. on August 30.
