A bulging exterior wall at the Hampton Public Library has forced city officials to explore possible repairs, but the extent of the problem is still unknown at this point.
The Hampton City Council authorized the engineering firm Yaggy Colby Associates to move forward with an ongoing examination of the library’s curved brick wall at their meeting March 13. Adams Construction noticed the bulge this winter while gathering preliminary specifics for future window replacement, but the crew was hesitant to proceed in case the wall was structurally unsound. The discovery prompted the city council to begin an investigation that will determine if any corrective measures need to be taken.
“It does appear it’s been in this bowed condition for some time,” said Yaggy Colby engineer Ben Wolf. “It could be stable.”
