A passion for wildlife conservation and a talent for grant writing has led to some big-time recognition for a former Hampton resident.
This month’s issue of Field & Stream magazine includes a short spotlight article on Uriah Hansen, current treasurer of the Northern Polk Pheasants Forever chapter and Iowa State Council of Pheasants Forever. Hansen, 23, has helped spearhead multiple land acquisitions that recently opened up more than 1,500 acres of public hunting ground across the state.
The article, called “Heroes of Conservation,” lauds Hansen’s work in preserving pheasant habitat.
“It’s kind of a shock. When you volunteer for an organization like this, you don’t go in looking for recognition and praise,” he said. “I just did it because I enjoy hunting and wanted to help out as best as I could.”
