A former Hampton resident escaped tragedy last week during a school shooting in South Dakota.
Harrisburg High School Principal Kevin Lein was shot in the arm by a student in his office on Sept. 30. Lein, a 1977 graduate of Hampton High School, was the only person injured in the incident. Fellow school administrators wrestled the suspect to the ground and detained him until authorities arrived.
According to Sioux Falls ABC affiliate KSFY, Lein was released from the hospital and returned to school the next day. He appeared at a press conference on Oct. 1 with his right arm in a sling and fielded questions from the media.
