HAMPTON – Even though Hampton-Dumont spotted visiting Algona Garrigan a couple of runs in its baseball opener, almost everything went the Bulldogs way the rest of the night in a 14-4, six-inning victory.
All but one of coach Matt Lokenvitz’s team came up with a hit and all of the lineup reached base multiple times while working 11 walks to start the year 1-0.
Lokenvitz couldn’t have asked for much more to the start other than giving up the early deficit.
“We looked like nerves got a hold of us a little bit,” Lokenvitz said. “I thought we had a good blend of those who played varsity for us last year and a mix of new guys, uncharacteristically, Johnny (Guerrero) had an error, a miscommunication in the outfield for a drop, bad throws, had a deer-in-the-headlights look, they jumped out and got a couple on us quickly...."
The entire story appears in the May 31 print and online editions of the Hampton Chronicle.
