Hampton council reexamines LOST uses

The Hampton City Council reviewed options for the reallocation of Local Option Sales Tax revenue during their workshop and regular meeting on Monday, May 8 and Thursday, May 11.
Currently used to pay off the city's swimming pool, the council will be asking voters to change the usage of the tax revenue once the pool is paid off.
The current proposal would allocate 20 percent of the revenue to go towards the operation of the pool, five percent to go towards police department vehicles, 20 percent to go towards fire department vehicles, and the remaining 55 percent to be used at the council's discretion.
Council member Jay Hickman, concerned that allocating 20 percent of the tax revenue to the pool would result in a build-up of funds that couldn't efficiently be used, suggested that cut be reduced to 15 percent and that any additional funding needed be provided by the city.
