Following budgetary debates and discussions leading up to the presentation of Hampton’s fiscal year 2018, the council affirmed to let the record show their positions on an increase of $4,500 to the library’s budget.
During budgetary hearings for city entities last month, the council had extended discussions regarding Library Director Kim Manning’s increased budget request. Manning cited her initial budget request of $6,000 as the library’s “dream budget,” which displeased Mayor Brook Boehmler and council, expressing that the city doesn’t negotiate with outside funding agencies; the agencies within the city request a minimum budget to maintain operations to control spending.
Much discussion was had at January’s meetings’ regarding who set wages and how to disburse the funds. After negotiations, the council agreed to increase the budget by $4,500, with $1,200 going towards upgrading computer costs, though the library does have a reserve account to pull funds from.
