A local daycare center is hoping to raise $200,000 to expand its facility and increase capacity for a growing student population in Hampton and the surrounding area.

Hampton Community Christian Daycare (HCCD) began soliciting donations earlier this year and has collected $118,000 so far. Officials are hoping to gather the remaining $82,000 during the winter, with groundbreaking on the expansion tentatively set for spring 2015. The project would add two new classrooms totaling 3,800 square feet onto the east side of the existing building.

HCCD currently serves 113 children, but Director Laura Bradley said she has turned families away recently because the facility is at capacity. If the addition is completed, the building’s capacity would increase to 150 students and alleviate space constraints.
