Dozens of friends and family gathered at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hampton on Thursday, July 13, to celebrate the life of Hampton resident and former state trooper Joel Roode.
During the ceremony in honor of Roode, attendees sang hymns and prayed, and a line of state troopers offered him one final salute as his casket was carried out of the church and toward his final resting place.
Roode was born in Clinton, Iowa, on Feb. 22, 1952, and lived in Hampton for the majority of his life. Roode got married to his wife, Sally Roode (Dihlmann), on June 9, 1973. They remained married for 44 years and had four children.
