July 4-6 promises to be three days of musical fun in Hampton for local residents and visitors alike.
The world famous Hampton Municipal Band will kick off the jam-packed weekend with a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Band Shell Park. The performance will close out the band’s 2015 concert season and is free to the public. The Hampton Jaycees will follow the patriotic tribute with a fireworks show at Beeds Lake at dusk.
“People should bring their lawn chairs and enjoy the evening of rousing music and good company,” said Mayor Brook Boehmler. “You don’t want to miss this free event in the park.”
The fun continues July 5 with the Old Fashioned Sing-Along at 4 p.m. in the Windsor Theatre. Normally held on the second Sunday of each month, the day has changed and will feature 14 members of Dawn Groszkruger’s family.
Guests will take a step back in time as they enjoy the musical stylings of days gone by inside the air-conditioned theater. Everyone attending receives a lyric book and admission is free. All free will donations are given back to the Windsor Theatre.
New songs include “Bell Bottom Trousers” and “You’re a Grand Old Flag.”
“I am always thrilled to lead the Sing-Along,” said Groszkruger. “We have a variety of songs in our lyric books and my family is excited to join me on stage.”
The music-filled fun concludes July 6 with the Old Time Country Hoedown from 6-9 p.m. The Hoedown is a free music jam open to all levels of musicians and is held at the Windsor Theatre on the first Monday of each month.
The theater seats are ideal for audience members to sit back and enjoy some good old time country, bluegrass and gospel songs. Visitors are encouraged to follow along with the musicians on stage as they perform for the enthusiastic crowd.
“You never know which musicians will be in attendance, and yet it proves to be fun, entertaining and different every time,” said Hoedown organizer Don Wrolson.
