Percy Morehouse, the oldest man in Hampton, marks his time in North Central Iowa with is 108th birthday on Friday, Jan. 13.
Morehouse has spent the last six years at the Franklin Country View Nursing Home, but spent much of his retired years in Dumont, Iowa.
In 1909, Morehouse was the second of three brothers born to his family’s house in the country, in Aredale, Iowa. Like the rest of his brothers, he was born in the farmhouse, when doctors made house calls. His family raised food and livestock for the home, there.
He attended a country school house for elementary school in Aredale, and later attended high school up to the tenth grade, when high school only went to 11th grade. The 12th grade was a separate school. Morehouse and his brother only finished tenth grade however, as they worked as farm hands to make money. As kids, the brothers would snare gophers for fun.
