Hampton’s “ultimate team player” gets second shot at college competition

For 2010 senior Hampton-Dumont baseball star Gustavo Canseco, offers to play in college were shadowed by a depressing reality.
     Canseco was an undocumented immigrant. His status and ineligibility for financial aid made college a far-off option.
     “It was really heartbreaking,” he said. “All that I went through – it died when I was done with high school.”
     On Dec. 17, he graduated from Iowa Central Community College and is continuing his education at William Penn. Baseball practice started Tuesday.
