H. Winfred “Win” Condon, 91

 H. Winfred “Win” Condon, 91, of Waverly and formerly from Hampton died on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.

     H. Winfred Condon was born on January 20, 1932, in Galt, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Tressie (McDermott) Boyington. She was baptized and later confirmed at Galt Congregational Church. Win attended country school and graduated from Clarion High School in 1949. She then went to work as a secretary for the division maintenance engineer for the Highway Commission (now known as the IDOT) in Clarion. On November 25,1952, she was united in marriage to Carl E. Condon in Clarion. They made their home in Hampton, where Win worked in the bookkeeping department at First National Bank of Hampton until they began their family. When the girls were in school, Win went to work as a ward secretary for the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton and later as the receptionist for Dr. Sensor and Dr. Wagner Dentist Office also in Hampton. In 1993, she retired to care for Carl as he was failing in health. Carl died on September 18, 1996, and Win continued to live in Hampton. In August of 2023, she moved to Waverly to be near her family.

     Win was a member of First Congregational Church in Hampton, where she has been very active over the years. She is a 50 plus member of the O.E.S. #77 of Hampton and a plus 50 member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem of Mason City. She is also a longtime member of the DAR and a member of the Friends of the Hampton Cemetery, Inc. A group of Hampton citizens that joined together to help with the restoration of the historic section of the cemetery.

     Survivors are her two daughters, Pamela (Leon) Shapiro of Annapolis, Maryland and Janet “Jan” (Jeff) Strickler of Waverly; granddaughter, Jessie (Ryan Arenholz) Strickler and two great granddaughters, Hailey and Adalyn Strickler. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Carl.

     Private family graveside services will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024, at the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton with Chaplain Mike Blair Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community presiding. Memorials may be directed to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Minneapolis, Minnesota and online condolences can be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
