Four shows down, four more to go and growing attendance has “Mary’s Team” writ-er/director/actor Dave Hisler excited about the play’s suc-cess.
“We’ve had a lot of posi-tive responses and a lot of laugher and that’s always nice to hear that,” said Hisler, who also teaches fifth grade at Hampton-Dumont Middle School.
Mary’s Team is currently being presented at the Mason City Community Theater. The show continues this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and can be purchased by calling the theater at 641-242-6424 or at the box office an hour before the show.
“Mary’s Team” focuses on Mary, a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, and her emotional journey through the team’s eventual World Series-winning season in 2016. The inspiration for the script came from Hisler’s moth-er, Mary, who passed away in 2010.
Hisler said that the emotions he felt while writing the play are passed on to audience members that are affected by the story in a similar way. The story touches on grief, healing and the impact people have on their loved ones.
