H-D grad coaches Bulldogs’ first-round playoff opponent

HAMPTON – When Hampton-Dumont takes the field for its Class 2A first-round playoff football game on Wednesday, Oct. 29, Dennis Swieter is going to have mixed feelings.

The man who has been heavily involved with the weightlifting program for the Bulldogs will also be pulling for the head coach of their opponent, Southeast Valley (5-4).

You see, Southeast Valley coach Mike Swieter is a Hampton-Dumont graduate who helped take the Bulldogs to their first playoff appearance in 1990.

He is also taking the Jaguars to their first playoff appearance as a school that started whole-grade sharing at the start of the school year.

“Well, I don’t know,” Dennis Swieter said. “The last couple of nights, I’ve not (had) too much sleep...."
