Area residents will be treated to a timeless classic this weekend when “The Music Man” hits the stage Friday through Sunday in Hampton.

The Hampton-Dumont High School Drama Department has been practicing feverishly over the past two months in preparation for the musical. More than 50 students comprise the cast, pit band and backstage crew, which makes this year’s fall performance one of the biggest in recent memory.

Tammy Morris and Jesse Bunge are co-directing the play. Morris is overseeing the actual on-stage performance, while Bunge is coordinating the music. Due to conflicts with fall sports, they weren’t able to hold a full practice with the entire cast, band and crew until last week. The crunched schedule has led to extra rehearsals and some added stress, but Morris was confident everything would pull together in the end.
