H-D Bulldogs have aims for prestigious Drake Relays

HAMPTON – Only a very talented few throughout the state get the chance to compete at the high school portion of the Drake Relays.

After the Lady Bulldog Classic on Friday night, a handful of Hampton-Dumont girls track team members more than likely will be making the trek to the Blue Oval.

Less than a week after posting an impressive time at the first outdoor meet of the season, the H-D 4x100 crew one-upped themselves by streaking to a 52.09-second finish to win the event and all but assure the trip for the Drake preliminaries.

“I think we did really good and if we can keep up the hand-offs, keep up the speed, we’ll be fine,” said senior Elvira Cavazos, who runs the third leg of the relay. “We just (talked about) getting a better time than last season and we did that in the first meet. I thought that was great that we got it...."
