The Hampton-Dumont Board of Education approved the purchase of two new mathematics curricula for its kindergarten and its first through fifth grades.
Currently, H-D grades K-5 are teaching off of Everyday Math, Copyright 2007, which is several editions behind the most recent editions of the Everyday Math program, as well as behind Iowa Core Standards, said Curriculum Director Jen Koenen.
“The number one issue with using the current curricular program is that it’s old and outdated,” Koenen said. “Since then [2007], Iowa Core was adopted and that’s based off Common Core state standards and the Iowa Core Mathematics standards. We were trying to have students meet new standards developed before the old standards; we had to hodge-podge and pick and choose to meet the rigor of these current standards.”
Starting in fall of 2017, Everyday Math 4 will be implemented in first through fifth grades, while enVisionMath2.0 will be implemented in kindergarten.
