The Hampton Public Library is $40,000 closer to paying for their wall restoration project thanks to a fundraising campaign sparked by financial agent Belen Krabbe.
Krabbe issued a challenge to the Hampton community last May to raise $100,000 to help pay for the project after it was discovered that the curved brick wall of the library would need to be completely reconstructed, doubling the initial estimate.
"That building is so important. It represents so much," said Krabbe. "I'm thankful I can read and anybody who is successful in this country has to learn how to read."
Adding an incentive to donate, Krabbe promised matching funds of $1,000 for every $10,000 raised up to the $100,000 goal. The fundraising campaign came short of the lofty goal, raising $30,000, however Krabbe has decided to donate the additional $10,000 anyway.
