Full Circle: A little extra love and care is the origins of the Hampton Public Library

     When the Hampton Public Library found its permanent home on the corner of 4 S Federal St., Hampton, on Oct. 6, 1905, the project cost nearly $17,000, and was “way” over budget, by early 20th century standards.
     When the Hampton Public Library was renovated to include a back patio, a rear, handicap accessible entrance, and a new curved wall, in 2017, the project came in over budget for… approximately $17,000 — a cost footed by the City of Hampton.
     The 1905 construction of the library took two years to complete, hitting several snags along the way. It was underfunded from an Andrew Carnegie grant, worth $10,000 leaving outside parties to fund heating, shelving and electrical fixtures.
