Frank was born the middle of five children in rural Franklin County on January 30, 1934, at the home of his aunt and uncle Willie and Reuben Pralle and his uncle Walter Pralle. Frank was raised on a farm north of Latimer by his mother Alvina (Pralle) Honold and father Elmer Honold. He was baptized in 1934 and confirmed in 1948. Frank was a life-long member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Latimer. He went to country elementary school and graduated high school at Franklin Consolidated in 1952.

Prior to entering the Army in 1955, Frank delivered milk and helped his father on the family farm. While in the Army, Frank served in Korea. After his military service, Frank resumed his milk route and his work on the family farm. In 1960, Frank began working at Latimer Grain, delivering feed to local farmers for their livestock. He retired from Farmer’s Cooperative in 1999. For several years to follow he helped the Sandersfelds (Kermit and Paul) in the planting and harvesting seasons. Frank also tended to a large garden in his own yard. He enjoyed visiting with his neighbors and gathering with friends and family.

In 1962, Frank met Miss Janice Van Veldhuizen after she came to Latimer for her first teaching assignment at the newly formed CAL Community School. Frank and Jan were united in marriage on August 10, 1963, at the First Reformed Church in Hull, IA. To their union, a son Steven was born in 1969. They were married for nearly 48 years until Janice’s death in 2011.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife Janice, parents Elmer and Alvina Honold and three siblings: Lorna Brown, Karen Lehman and Vernon Honold.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son Steven and his wife Karen Honold of West Des Moines, brother Marvin and his wife Ruth Honold of Grinnell, brothers-in-law Lowell Brown and Paul Lehman, many nieces and nephews and his beloved friend Marie Teggatz of Hampton and her family.
