Franklin County thaws out

Editorial: Winter is over. Finally. Now it’s time to get out and explore what the Franklin County area has to offer.
The recent weather, at least when the rain decides to subside for a couple of hours, has been conducive for walks, hikes, bike rides, fishing and much more. The various city and county departments responsible for our public areas have been hard at work cleaning up from what winter left behind to beautify grounds.
The best way to thank them for the newly planted trees, groomed trails and clean parks is to simply get out and enjoy them.
Go for a hike in one of Franklin County’s nature areas, have a picnic at the parks, cast a line at Beeds Lake or wherever the fish are biting. By utilizing our public areas, we show an appreciation for the dedication of the professionals who dedicate their career to public service.
We all got sick of winter and are happy to go more than a couple of days without having to worry about another blizzard ruining our plans. There’s no better way to celebrate that then spending time outdoors.
Another bonus with the improving weather is the chance for city street crews to get out and take care of the roads that took a beating over the prolonged winter. Winter takes a heavy toll on the roads, leaving cracks and craters everywhere. These unsightly potholes and all around dirty roads do pose hazards to our cars. City road crews hit the streets the second the weather allowed to make sure we can travel with as few as bumps possible and so they can focus on the big summer projects.
We all want the best roads possible, and so do they. It’s important to have patience as their efforts were delayed significantly. Obtaining materials to make repairs and the actual repair process takes a significant amount of time. No one wants a dangerous road and that goes doubly for road crews.
