Franklin County and the Iowa State Snowmobile Association on Tuesday picked up a $200,000 grant to help purchase a new trail groomer.
The money was part of $1.4 million in grants awarded by the Iowa Transportation Commission for the federal Recreational Trails Program project. The Iowa State Snowmobile Association will also match 20 percent, $40,000, of the grant fund.
Gary McVicker, Franklin County Supervisor, said the Iowa River Riders Snowmobile Club, which serves Franklin, Wright, Cerro Gordo and Hardin Counties, use the groomer to maintain the more than 300 miles of snowmobile trails in the club’s area.
“It’s a really good deal,” he said of the grant.
