Franklin County rolls out welcome mat for veterans

     Following more than seven months of planning and preparation, Franklin County is now a certified Home Base Iowa Community.
     Gov. Terry Branstad OK’d the county’s application on May 4 along with three other Iowa communities. The designation allows Franklin County to offer qualifying military veterans two separate $500 cash grants to move here and work with a local employer. The incentive package also includes an assortment of special offers from local merchants.
     Franklin County applied for Home Base Iowa Community status in late March. The program allows local governments and other agencies to develop incentive packages that entice veterans into their communities, in turn bolstering the local workforce with high-quality employees.
