Hot and humid conditions weren’t enough to keep people from turning out to support cancer research Saturday in Sheffield for the 2014 Franklin County Relay For Life.

Around $67,000 was raised by local Relay teams, according to event coordinator Sheri Bogue. The total was on par with last year’s Relay For Life, which raised $68,000 for cancer research in Iowa.

Bogue said she was happy with the numbers and was pleased with Saturday’s turnout.

“It wasn’t completely unbearable. It was sticky, but we had a lot of people out there and I think that helped,” she said. “I think that $67,000 is a good number. We still have some money coming in from the silent auction, so it will probably be more. But I’d rather be low than high.”
