Franklin County farmers see mixed results during 2014 harvest

Heavy summer rainfall and other extreme weather conditions led to varied yield numbers for Franklin County corn and soybean farmers this year.

     The area was pounded by precipitation in June, which created numerous ponds in some fields and choked off crops submerged in water.  According to AgVantage FS Crop Specialist Tanner Bohman, many farmers were unable to replant the dead spots due to saturated soil and other adverse field conditions. Those farmers ultimately saw their yields dip and some of their soybeans come in underweight.

     “It all depended on where you were,” Bohman said. “The consensus was the beans were just under too much stress this year.”
