Flags and flowers placed throughout the streets and cemeteries on Memorial Day in Franklin County serve as a poignant reminder of all those that sacrificed everything to protect the citizens of their country.
Anthony Spradlin, Hampton-Dumont Middle School Principal and a 31 year member of the United States military, said those tributes and the stories of those that served are voices for those who have passed on.
“They still speak to us,” said Spradlin, who was the speaker at Monday’s Memorial Day service at the Hampton Cemetery. “If you listen quietly, you can still hear them. You remember their voices from the conversations you had before.”
Spradlin added those voices and the ability to gather on days such as Memorial Day are lasting reminders of their devotion.
