It was a musical St. Patrick's Day evening in Hampton on Saturday, March 17 as fans of the fine arts gathered at Faith Baptist Church for the eighth annual Young Performing Artist Scholarship Benefit Concert.
Presented by the Franklin County Arts Council, this year's concert featured Chad Sonka and Kristin Schwecke, accompanied on piano by Jodi Goble.
"It's always great to come back here," said Goble. "Hampton is starting to feel like an extension of my county."
A longtime contributor to the program, Goble has worked hard to organize guest artists for the last eight years. While generally the performers are invited from out-of-state, this year Goble brought in an Iowa native to teach and perform. Chad Sonka, this year's headlining baritone, has performed in the Central City Opera and currently works with Goble as a faculty member at Iowa State University. When not teaching, Sonka performs across the country, including at the annual Savannah Voice Festival, which is where he met Kristin Schwecke, this year's headlining soprano.
