Franklin County farmer Larry Sailer’s passion for agricultural advocacy has given him the opportunity to speak with farmers from around the world under an international spotlight.
Sailer, who primarily raises soybeans and pigs, was selected as the United States representative to participate in the Global Farmer Roundtable later this month. A dozen farmers from different backgrounds meet at the roundtable to discuss current issues in agriculture across the world.
According to the roundtable’s sponsor’s, Global Farmer Network, website, it is “a facilitated dialogue among global farmers to better understand and address the challenges of filling an increasing food and nutritional security gap.”
Sailer said the mission of the roundtable fits in with his nearly 30-year effort to help educate the public on the changing face of agriculture and the related issues facing not only Iowa and the United States, but the world as a whole. Through his involvement with Farm Bureau, the Iowa Pork Board, Iowa Ag in the Classroom and the Farm Journal Foundation, Sailer has made himself a dedicated advocate for farmers.
