ACKLEY – Bryce Flater topped 200 yards for the second straight game Friday as Grundy Center opened its Class A, District 4 season with a 21-7 victory over rival AGWSR in Ackley.
The Spartans (2-1 overall) led throughout the game and did not give up a touchdown until late in the game when both teams had reserves on the field.
“Any win on the road is a big win; to get a district win on the road makes it an even bigger win,” Spartan coach Brent Thoren said. “The district that we’re in, we’ll take any win that we can get because we know that game-in and game-out it’s going to be a battle. (AGWSR is) so well-coached, it was such a physical game. It was great so see our kids grow and come up with a victory.”
