HAMPTON – Hampton-Dumont wrestling coach Nick Bretz described the Class 2A wrestling sectional his team played host to as having its ups and downs.
It was rather a lot like a rollercoaster for his Bulldogs as five of his 10 wrestlers who competed on Saturday, Feb. 7 advanced to the district meet this Saturday at Webster City.
Big ups for H-D included Max Lehmann’s upset of No. 10-ranked 152-pounder Luke Bahr of Iowa Falls-Alden for the sectional title and first-year wrestler junior Miles Fristo emerging as sectional runner-up at 182 pounds, as well as heavyweight Mario Peña becoming the all-time single-season wins leader for the Bulldogs while tacking on another victory for the 285-pound title with a 43-1 overall record.
