HAMPTON – Unfamiliar with running a full cross country race, Hampton-Dumont senior Humberto Sanchez may have gone out a little too fast to start in his first effort at Maynes Grove on Thursday, Aug. 23.
He sprinted out at the start, putting some distance between himself and the next pack of runners.
It didn’t stop him, however, from leading the Bulldogs with a 19th-place finish to lead the boys’ team to eighth out of nine teams at the IF-A/AGWSR meet.
“I’m trying to take off as fast as I could to stay at the top,” Sanchez said of his start, “but I kind of slipped.”
The full story appears in the Aug. 29 print and online editions of the Hampton Chronicle.
