Police are searching for a suspect in a stabbing that occurred Tuesday afternoon at a home in Hampton that left one teenage female injured.

The incident occurred on 1st Avenue SE around 4:30 p.m. Law enforcement officers confirmed the stabbing, but declined to release a name or comment on the condition of the girl. The suspect remains at large but few details were available at the time of this posting at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.

"The problem is we don't have a good description other than he's male," said Hampton Police Capt. Mark Morrison.

Residents at neighboring properties were asked if their houses were unlocked at the time of the crime and if they saw any supsicous activity. Officers from the Hampton Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff's Office and Iowa State Patrol were on scene investigating, and Morrison confirmed officers from the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations were on their way to Hampton.

No information was available regarding the type of weapon used in the stabbing.

"It was an unknown object," said Hampton Police Officer Robert Gitzen. "Whether it was a knife, a screw driver or a finger, we just don't know."
