Farmers Cooperative (FC) moved one step closer to merging with West Central Cooperative following a decision last week by each company’s boards of directors.
Board members officially recommended combining the two companies by unanimously approving a proposed merger plan after two months of internal and independent analysis. Members from both cooperatives will now vote on the issue starting this month with results to be announced in mid-December. According to a press release, the proposal will be approved only if 50 percent of each membership votes with two-thirds of those ballots cast in favor of the merger.
“Our members own these cooperatives. We encourage each owner to read the plan of merger and proposed articles of incorporation, ask questions and return their ballot,” FC board president John Scott said in a release. “Every member matters.”
