Extensive upgrades needed at North Side prior to kindergarten's move

North Side Elementary will receive around $1.5 million worth of renovations next year if Hampton-Dumont follows through with recommendations proposed during a special board of education workshop Dec. 22.

     The building needs multiple upgrades before kindergarten classes move in from South Side Elementary next fall. Technology improvements, heating and cooling renovations, and window replacement were only a few items on a long to-do list presented to the board by an Iowa-based architecture firm. The upgrades are the first part of a multi-year plan aimed at modernizing the North Side building for future use.

     Increased enrollment created spatial constraints at South Side, consequently forcing kindergarten’s move next fall. Projections predict enrollment will continue that trend for the next five years.
