DES MOINES -- Hunter Sutter of Hampton-Dumont said he just wanted to make it to state.
He has to readjust his goals after he qualified seventh in the Class 2A 100-meter dash with another personal record of 11.26 seconds on Thursday, May 18 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
"I wasn't quite thinking about making it this far," Sutter said, "but another PR tonight and hoping to get to the finals."
Saturday, Sutter finished fifth in the 2A field. More on this will be in this week's Chronicle.
Sutter said after it was confirmed he was one of the eight finalists for Saturday's race, "(Heat winner and overall qualifier on time Michael) Santi helped me get out quick."
Sutter was third in the first heat and had to wait out the other two preliminaries before he knew he was in the final.
"Just trying to make it here and now making the finals," Sutter said. "I'll take it."
The 100-meter dash finals are Saturday at 12:55 p.m.
Only a junior, Sutter may have to re-think what he wants to do his senior year.
"Just get faster, I guess," Sutter said, "work my way to the top."
