HAMPTON -- Ten Hampton-Dumont hits, including a two-run home run by Callie Grover, backed Kylie Voy's one-hit shutout of Nashua-Plainfield to end the regular season at home on Saturday, July 2.
All but two Bulldogs had at least hit, but all of them reached in some capacity in 10-0 rout in five innings.
It was a good tune-up for regional play on Wednesday, July 6 at LaPorte City.
"You know, looking at Union, they have a different pitcher than what we've seen the last several nights," H-D coach Kelly Meader said, "and I'm not saying these pitchers aren't good, it's just that she is third in the state in strikeouts and have some more movement on her ball.
"So, we'll be ready, we'll take a break and then we'll come back and hit them hard."
And Voy nearly had a perfect game. Save for a two-out single up the middle by N-P's Kelsey Poppe, very little contact was made against the sophomore 12-game winner. She induced a flyout to center to start and then she struck out nine straight to finish with 10 strikeouts.
"It's a good farewell for me and (senior) Charlie (Myers)," Meader said, who earlier this year resigned the head coaching position after this season. "To come out and win the last home game since neither of us will be back next year, is good."
