Emergency crews respond to fire at 1st Avenue Southeast

Personnel from the Hampton Fire Department, Franklin General EMS, Hampton Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff's Office responded to a fire call at a residence on 1st Avenue Southeast in Hampton Tuesday evening. Officials said a smoldering fire was started when electrical wiring ignited some insulation in the home's basement. The fire was maintained relatively quickly, said Hampton Fire Chief Kent Wilkinson. No injuries were reported.
