Hampton’s skyline may look a little different by the end of the week.
Radcliffe, Iowa based Terminal Solutions is scheduled to begin demolition soon on the Landus Cooperative concrete elevator and houe. Since July 22, the crew has also removed the flats, grain bins and the outbuilding.
The first swing of the wrecking ball Monday morning marked the beginning of the end of an era. The structure was originally constructed in the 1950s but had been dormant for the last several years.
Former mill operator Vern Meinberg, who worked at the property for 20 years while it was owned by Farmers Cooperative Elevator Company, said he’s disappointed to see the elevator come down but understood it’s part of the nature of today’s agriculture industry.
“It’s just the way things change,” he said.
