Delmar Benning, 90

Delmar Benning, 90, of Hampton, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Franklin Country View Nursing Home in Hampton. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 10th, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in rural Geneva with burial in the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday at the Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home in Hampton. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home in Hampton. 

Delmar was born on January 17, 1933, to Henry and Emma (Meinberg) in Franklin County at home. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1951. On September 25, 1955, Delmar was united in marriage to Marjorie Wildebour at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in rural Geneva. Delmar served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953-1955. From 1955-1961 Delmar farmed and then he owned Benning Café in Hampton from 1961-1966. Delmar then worked at Farmland in Iowa Falls from 1967-1976. He then worked at IPS from 1977 until his retirement. He was very active at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in the choir, quartet, children’s supervisor, and usher.

Delmar is survived by his children Cindy (Randy) Grefe of Hampton, Doug (Jill) Benning of Hampton and Dennis (Jackie) Benning of Hampton, grandchildren Brandon (Alexis) Grefe, Tyler Benning, Jeremy Grefe, Tanner (fiancé Kenzie Larson) Benning, Josh (Lauren) Benning, Mackenzie (Tyler) Kokemiller, great-grandchildren Mila, Elle, Aja, Hadley and Della and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Harold and Floyd and sister Lavonne.
