David “Dave” Simpson, 63

David “Dave” Simpson, 63, of Baxter and formerly of Hampton passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the Des Moines VA Medical Center after a private battle with cancer. Per Dave’s wishes a Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 4pm-7pm upstairs at the Izaak Walton League, 889 Co Hwy F36, Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dave’s name may be left at the celebration of life or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory (checks made payable to Kyle Simpson). The family will use the funds to create a memorial at the Izaak Walton League where friends and family can go to remember Dave.

David Arlin Simpson was born on August 11, 1960, in Hampton, Iowa to Glen “Pug” Simpson and Joyce (Lemke) Simpson. He proudly joined the Army in 1979 and served his country as a mechanic working on light wheeled vehicles and generators until his discharge in 1983. Dave was always a hard worker and kept himself busy learning new trades. He enjoyed working with his hands and was a skilled carpenter. There wasn’t much he couldn’t build or fix.

The most important thing in Dave’s life were his children and grandchildren. If you happened to run into him in passing it was guaranteed that he would bring up his family.  Dave will be remembered for his constant kind, infectious smile and the joy that he brought to those around him.

Dave is survived by his three children, Travis Simpson of Lutz, FL, Kyle (Kayla) Simpson of Newton and Kendyl Simpson of Newton and five grandchildren, Jacob, Christopher, Landon, Jackson, and Elise. He is also survived by his sisters, Robin (Vick) Woltjer of Hampton, Kim (Bob) Smith of Hampton; brother, Jeff (Michele) Simpson of Geneva; many nieces and nephews and countless friends, including Mike Pender of Baxter who helped with his care in his final months.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his grandnephew Ely Hawley.
